![]() Student Activities
The Wesleyan Council on Student Affairs, the student legislature and policy organization, is composed of students, faculty members, and administrators. Departmental student boards also give you a say in your own education. The OWU fraternity and sorority system was founded in 1853. Approximately one-third of OWU students are affiliated with a Greek organization. Most fraternities have houses on the residential side of the campus; sorority houses are nonresidential. Greek life at OWU is inclusive; whether you’re Greek or not, you’re invited to participate in Greek-sponsored activities. In addition to sponsoring social events, the Greek community also is involved in a wide range of service initiatives. If you’re an athlete, there are many opportunities to compete. The Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops compete in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC), one of the premier leagues of Division III athletics. Men compete in basketball, tennis, baseball, football, lacrosse, soccer, golf, cross-country running, sailing, track and field, swimming, as well as diving. Women’s sports include basketball, tennis, volleyball, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, cross-country running, sailing, track and field, softball, swimming, as well as diving. In 2007-2008, Ohio Wesleyan won the NCAC All-Sports trophy for the second consecutive year, posting top-3 finishes in seven of the nine spring sports and winning championships in baseball, golf, women's lacrosse, men's outdoor track & field; and men's and women's indoor track & field. The Bishops finished in the top 5 in 19 of the 22 sports in which the NCAC offers championships. This year marks the eighth time OWU has won the All-Sports Championship. Club and intramural sports are also part of the OWU experience, and nearly 80 percent of your fellow students participate in some sort of organized recreational activity. There are also wilderness treks and other outdoor learning experiences available through the Chaplain’s office. You also can participate in or attend in more than 100 theatrical and dance performances, art openings, lectures, and special events each year. You’ll never be bored at OWU. There’s just too much to do. |
